Supporting case managers, care teams and families to deliver safe, sustainable complex care

occupational therapy and moving & handling
consultancy.

What I do
I’m Rebecca Parr, an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist and Moving & Handling Trainer specialising in complex physical needs. Based in Leeds, I work across the North of England supporting clients with brain injuries, neurological conditions and long-term disabilities.
I specialise in complex moving and handling and am frequently brought into multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) where transfers have become difficult, risks are increasing, equipment is no longer meeting needs, or care teams require specialist guidance and training. I provide expert assessment, clinical reasoning and bespoke handling plans for clients with high postural, equipment and transfer needs.
My role is to enable safe, dignified mobility while reducing risk for clients, carers and organisations. I work collaboratively with case managers, solicitors, care providers, families and MDTs to develop practical, defensible and sustainable solutions that can be implemented in everyday practice.

Why Case Managers and MDTs Instruct Me
- When care packages become difficult to deliver
- When moving and handling risks are increasing
- When posture, equipment or transfer needs have changed
- When recommendations are not being implemented consistently
- When care teams need specialist training and support
- When community access and meaningful activity are reducing
- When complex decisions require clear clinical reasoning and defensible recommendations
I help MDTs, case managers and care providers develop practical, sustainable solutions for clients with complex physical and neurological needs. My work combines occupational therapy, moving and handling, postural care, equipment provision, functional assessment and care team training to ensure recommendations can be implemented safely in everyday practice.
Services
Promoting safe and dignified moving and handling solutions.
Specialist Occupational Therapy Assessments
I provide specialist occupational therapy assessment for adults with complex physical disabilities, acquired brain injury and neurological conditions. Assessments may include functional ability, mobility, transfers, equipment, seating, postural care, environmental factors, adaptations, community access and care needs.
Moving and Handling Consultancy
I provide specialist assessment and clinical reasoning for complex moving and handling situations where standard approaches are no longer sufficient. This may include high-risk transfers, postural challenges, equipment selection, care package implementation, staff training and risk management.
Postural Care and Equipment Reviews
I assess posture, positioning, seating and specialist equipment to improve comfort, function, participation and quality of life. Recommendations may include specialist seating, beds, sleep systems, moving and handling equipment, environmental adaptations and other solutions to support function, comfort and participation.
Training & Supervision
I deliver specialist moving and handling training designed for complex clients and tailored to the MDT’s goals and care context. Topics can include safe moving and handling, use of hoists and slings, postural care and the safe use of specialist equipment. Training is designed to build confidence and competence in day-to-day practice.
Who we work with
Specialist occupational therapy for complex physical disability, rehabilitation, postural care and moving & handling.
Case Managers and solicitors
I am frequently instructed in complex rehabilitation and catastrophic injury cases to provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, expert moving and handling advice, equipment and postural care recommendations, and clear, defensible clinical reporting for rehabilitation and litigation purposes.
Individuals and families
Private assessments, advice and training to help you or your family member move safely, use equipment with confidence and live as independently as possible at home.
Housing and social care teams
Joint working on complex cases, including moving and handling assessments, equipment trials, care planning and support with adaptations and rehousing decisions.
Care providers and support workers
I work alongside MDTs and care teams to embed safe practice, reduce risk and develop clear, client-specific handling plans and training.
How it works
Every client and situation is different.
- Initial contact – Get in touch by phone or email to discuss your needs.
- Assessment – I will arrange a visit at home or in the relevant setting to complete a detailed assessment.
- Report and plan – You will receive clear written recommendations and, where needed, a moving and handling plan.
- Follow-up and training – I can provide ongoing advice, training and reviews as needs change.
I am happy to discuss cases informally before any referral is made. I can join MDT meetings, joint assessments and case reviews to support collaborative planning and ensure moving and handling considerations are fully integrated into the wider rehabilitation approach.
